Anyone who creates adult content online understands how hard it is to find your place. Banned here, shadowbanned there, too explicit for some platforms, not explicit enough for others. Sometimes, just when you think you've found your place, you lose it all. Suppression, deplatforming... we are all too familiar, we have come to expect it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't still hurt every time.
Twitter was my first social media platform as a sex worker, back in 2018. I fell out of it over the years as I rotated through exploring other sites and apps for community and exposure.
Early 2023, I decided to give it another go. I revived my old account, brought it out of shadowban, and started another account from scratch. Just as I started finding a flow, gaining momentum, seeing results and activity, I got shadowbanned - partially from mass reports. I was so discouraged and ready to leave the platform, but I had also become extremely burnt out of the unending censorship on Meta, and I had lost my best Tiktok shortly before.
Before I left Twitter for good, I saw someone I was following mentioning Bluesky as new and invite-only. I had actually really enjoyed being a part of Clubhouse beta back when it was invite-only, I found it to be a really interesting experience that introduced me to some people and ideas I'd have never crossed paths with otherwise.
This was April 2023. I saw that Bluesky mention and immediately searched Twitter for the phrase "selling Bluesky invites", found someone offering them for $5, and the rest was history.
The funny thing is... When I joined Bluesky, I was purely seeking views, exposure, fans, but that changed really quickly. I became part of something a lot bigger than myself - part of a project in pursuit of a better internet, part of loving communities who have changed how I look at the world and myself. I saw that the things I did and said actually made an impact to the platform, to the people there. I saw that sometimes, if I don't make the moves that need to be made, they won't happen at all because there isn't always someone who sees and cares.
And I do see, and I do care.
As one of the first sex workers on Bluesky, I started to become a sort of central point where people would come to my profile to find more accounts like me. I noticed that a single repost from me could make the difference between 0 views and virality for someone - and this is when I created a second account, "Bluesky Baddies" (inspired by the "Insta baddie" trope). This became a place I could dedicate fully to helping other sex workers.
Now rebranded as "RealNSFW", this account grows organically just as quickly as my own account and has taken on a life of it's own. Seeing it's success and wanting to include as many people as possible, I created a second page, "Gone Wild", where all genders are welcome, allowing us to keep RealNSFW primarily femme-focused as originally intended.
No longer a solo project, I've teamed up with other sex workers in the community to expand our reach and impact.
Clarabelle Woods (owner of Booksky) also owns "Real Girls" - an (also impressively successful) space just for women. Chloe Blossom owns "Real MILFs", Soul owns "Alt Babes Online", and Pippa owns "NSFW Vault".
These pages ONLY promote and share content from profiles that are age and ID verified on at least one legitimate adult site.
All of these pages and their feeds are only the tip of the iceberg of where we want to take this project. We know Bluesky is weird. We've been here since the beginning, we know the ins and outs, we know all the little tricks.
We know it's already a headache to learn a new platform, let alone one where the usual techniques won't necessarily work the same way.
We want to become, not only a promotional space, but also a source of knowledge and other resources to help creators succeed. We have a lot of great ideas, but we're limited in time, funding, and womanpower for a lot of it. We have done a LOT of building behind the scenes, so this will be a place for further transparency and communication on all of the projects encompassed by Babesky.
We hope you'll stick around to see what we build here. Whether you're a creator or a fan (or both), we sincerely appreciate your support and we hope to provide value to you on either side.
